The information you submit through this project intake is provided for informational purposes only and does NOT by itself create an attorney-client relationship with My Lien Lawyer or constitute legal advice. Any deadlines, claim types, or amounts shown in the portal are based on general statutory rules and the information you provide, and are not guaranteed to be accurate or applicable to your specific situation.

Mechanics lien and bond claim laws vary significantly by state, project type, contractual relationships, and individual circumstances. Numerous exceptions, local ordinances, and case law interpretations may affect your actual rights and deadlines.

You must consult a qualified construction attorney before relying on any information shown in this portal. Do not use anything in this tool as a substitute for professional legal counsel.

⚠️ Missing a statutory deadline may result in the permanent and irreversible loss of your lien rights and payment remedies.

    By proceeding, you acknowledge that:

    • Submitting this project does not, on its own, retain My Lien Lawyer to act on your behalf — representation begins only under a signed engagement agreement.
    • Calculations and suggested deadlines are estimates based on general statutory rules and the information you provided.
    • You are responsible for the accuracy and completeness of the information you enter, including dates, amounts, parties, and uploaded documents.
    • You will verify all critical deadlines and claim requirements with a licensed attorney.
    • My Lien Lawyer assumes no liability for missed deadlines, lost rights, or inaccurate calculations resulting from incomplete or incorrect information.

Use of third-party non-attorney service providers. You understand and agree that My Lien Lawyer may, in its discretion, utilize third-party, non-attorney service providers (including but not limited to national notice, filing, recording, and service-of-process vendors) to prepare, serve, record, or file preliminary notices, notices to owner, notices of intent, mechanics liens, bond claims, stop-payment notices, releases, and related documents on your behalf. You agree that your use of any such third-party services is subject to and bound by the terms of service, conditions, disclaimers, pricing, and limitations of liability of the applicable third-party provider, and that My Lien Lawyer is not responsible for the acts, omissions, delays, errors, or fees of any such third-party provider.

Authorization; limited agent / attorney-in-fact. You hereby authorize and appoint My Lien Lawyer (and its attorneys, staff, and designees) to act as your agent and attorney-in-fact, on a limited basis, for the purpose of engaging, contracting with, transmitting information to, and providing instructions to third-party service providers and local counsel in connection with your project — including furnishing and serving preliminary and statutory notices, preparing and recording mechanics liens, asserting bond and stop-payment claims, filing suit through local counsel where appropriate, and taking related actions to preserve and enforce your payment remedies. You further authorize My Lien Lawyer to sign, verify, and submit such notices, claims, engagement letters, and related documents on your behalf, and to share project information (including party names, amounts, dates, and uploaded documents) with those providers and local counsel as reasonably necessary to perform the requested work. This authorization may be revoked in writing at any time, except as to work already performed or fees already incurred.

Jurisdiction of licensure; out-of-state matters. My Lien Lawyer is a trade name of Fred Shestopal, P.C. Attorney Fred Shestopal is licensed to practice law only in the State of Illinois. My Lien Lawyer does not practice law, hold itself out as authorized to practice law, or provide legal advice in any jurisdiction other than Illinois. For projects, notices, liens, bond claims, or other matters arising in any state other than Illinois, any legal services (including the giving of legal advice, the rendering of legal opinions, the preparation of legal instruments where such preparation constitutes the practice of law, the recording or filing of mechanics liens where such filing constitutes the practice of law, and the representation of clients in litigation or administrative proceedings) are performed exclusively by duly licensed local counsel in the applicable jurisdiction and/or by third-party, non-attorney notice and filing service providers engaged for that purpose. My Lien Lawyer's role with respect to any such out-of-state matter is limited to coordinating, administering, and communicating with such local counsel and third-party providers, and to performing non-legal, administrative, and ancillary support services in connection therewith.

Ancillary, non-legal services outside Illinois. You acknowledge and agree that any work performed by My Lien Lawyer (or its non- attorney staff) in connection with a project located outside Illinois — including, without limitation, intake and document review, deadline calendaring, data entry, generation of forms from public templates, project management, correspondence, coordination with local counsel and third-party providers, billing, and recordkeeping — is ancillary, administrative, and non-legal in nature and shall not be construed as the practice of law, the rendering of legal advice, or the establishment of an attorney-client relationship with My Lien Lawyer or Fred Shestopal, P.C. in any jurisdiction. You further acknowledge that no attorney at My Lien Lawyer has represented that he or she is licensed to practice law in any state other than Illinois, and that you have not relied on any such representation.

Preliminary notices and statutory notices. You acknowledge that the preparation, completion, and service of preliminary notices, notices to owner, notices of intent, and other similar statutory notices required to preserve mechanics lien, bond claim, or stop-payment rights may be considered the practice of law in some jurisdictions, while other jurisdictions treat such notices as ministerial, non-legal acts that may be performed by non-attorneys or third-party notice and filing services. My Lien Lawyer may, in its discretion and at your direction, prepare, complete, or facilitate the preparation and service of such preliminary or statutory notices for projects located outside Illinois, either directly or through third-party non-attorney providers and local counsel. You agree that any such notice preparation or facilitation performed by My Lien Lawyer (or its non-attorney staff, agents, or designees) outside Illinois is intended to be ancillary, administrative, and non-legal in nature, and is not a substitute for legal advice or representation by an attorney licensed in the applicable jurisdiction. In the event that any state bar, court, arbitrator, or regulatory body determines that the preparation, completion, or service of such notices by My Lien Lawyer (or its staff, agents, or designees) constitutes the practice of law or the unauthorized practice of law in any jurisdiction, you assume the full risk of that determination and agree that My Lien Lawyer shall not be liable for any claim, sanction, consequence, or cost arising from that determination, except to the extent caused by My Lien Lawyer's gross negligence or willful misconduct. You confirm that you have been advised to consult with a licensed attorney in the applicable jurisdiction before authorizing any notice work.

Release and limitation of liability. To the maximum extent permitted by law, you release, waive, and hold harmless My Lien Lawyer, Fred Shestopal, P.C., and their respective attorneys, officers, employees, agents, and affiliates from and against any and all claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including attorneys' fees) arising out of or relating to: (a) the preparation, service, recording, filing, or non-filing of any preliminary or statutory notice, mechanics lien, bond claim, stop-payment notice, release, or related instrument on your behalf; (b) any act, omission, delay, error, or fee of any third-party service provider or local counsel engaged in connection with your project; (c) the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of information you supplied; and (d) any purported reliance on information displayed in this portal that has not been reduced to written legal advice under a signed engagement agreement. My Lien Lawyer's aggregate liability for any matter arising out of your use of this portal or any ancillary services shall not exceed the fees actually paid by you to My Lien Lawyer for the specific matter giving rise to the claim.

I have read and understand this disclaimer. I agree that this portal provides general guidance only and I will consult a licensed attorney in the applicable jurisdiction before acting on any deadlines or claim recommendations shown here.
